Our annual Thanksgiving Sing is Friday, November 19th at 2:15 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room @ Brownell. The doors will open to parents and other family members at 2:00 p.m. All students/staff will walk to Brownell for the sing. Please make sure your child is wearing comfortable shoes. After the performance students will return to Kerby and be dismissed at the 3:38 p.m. bell. This is a wonderful way to start the holiday season and is one more example of the many things we have to be thankful for … The Kerby Community!
As you may know, Parent-Teacher Conferences will follow a schedule similar to last school year, consisting of a morning session, an afternoon session, and two evening sessions. This gives parents an opportunity to attend the conferences based on what works best for their schedules. The challenge lies in the schedule - we only have 20 minutes per conference allotted due to the number of conferences that each teacher must accommodate in the 4 sessions. We truly appreciate your cooperation with being on time and respecting the time that the teacher has available for your child's conference. Our goal is to work with you as a team in meeting your child's educational needs. We know that this can only be accomplished through open and frequent two-way communication.
The schedule for December Parent-Teacher Conferences is:
Wednesday, December 1st School for Students 8:25 a.m. -3:38 p.m.
Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Thursday, December 2nd NO School for Students
Parent-Teacher Conferences 8:30-11:30 a.m., 1:00-3:30 p.m. & 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Most parents signed up for conferences at Back to School Night and conference invitations were sent home in October. If you have not yet received your conference invitation, please contact your child’s teacher. Please leave younger siblings home so that you can devote your full attention to your child's conference. We look forward to partnering with you as your child engages in a school year filled with challenge and lessons learned.

Yellow zones or cuts on Beaupre and Kerby are for Drop-Off/Pick-Up ONLY. Parents may NOT park or leave their cars in these zones. Parking/dropping-off/picking-up/walking through the parking lot is NOT allowed.

* On Monday, October 31st 47 Kerby Cougars were recognized at our Go Green/Halloween assembly! 43 Kerby Cougars were recognized at our 'Go Green'/All School Choir assembly on Friday, May 20th! *55 Kerby Cougars were recognized at our 'Go Green' assembly on Friday, April 15th! *Kerby will recognize 75 Kerby Cougars at our 'Go Green' assembly on Wednesday, March 16th! *Kerby celebrated 61 Kerby Cougars who were recognized at our 'Go Green' assembly on Friday, October 29th. *Kerby continues to rank near the top of all elementary schools in the State of Michigan!! *Kerby celebrated 76 Kerby Cougars who were recognized at our 'Go Green' assembly on Tuesday, May 18th. *Kerby will celebrate 54 Kerby Cougars who were recognized at an all-school 'Go Green' assembly on Thursday, April 1st. After we celebrate the work of our friends we will enjoy Disney's 'Get Moving' presentation in the gym!! *On Wednesday, February 24th we recognized 61 Kerby Cougars at our 'Go Green' assembly. We are focusing on using our character traits in the hallways, and as we enter and leave the building. I'm confident that as we work hard and do our best, good things will come our way! *The month of December was filled with music! Our 1st, 3rd, 5th graders and choir students sang beautifully at the Winter Concert on December 10th and our 5th grade instrumental students had us 'tapping our feet' at the concert on December 16th! It was during this assembly that we acknowledged our 'Go Green' recipients (34 students in all)!! *We 'kicked off' the holiday season with the annual Thanksgiving Sing on Friday, November 20th! During this wonderful Kerby tradition we recognized and celebrated the character traits of 40 Kerby Cougars. *Kerby's annual Halloween was a huge success and fun was had by all. We held our 2nd Go Green assembly after the assembly and we were able to recognize 23 Kerby students for their Respectful, Responsible, Honest, and Caring behaviors. Way to go Cougars! *Kerby's 1st Go Green assembly was held on Wednesday, September 30th! We recognized 48 who accepted the 'let's read the 4 book challenge over the summer. We also recognized 37 5th graders who were nominated for the 'Give Me Ten' program at Bair Lake Camp. Way to go Kerby Cougars! *A huge thank you to Max Roeske (Kerby class of 2006) and the 5th grade class of 2009 for the GaGa Ball court. This has been a great addition to the playfield and I look forward to all of the laughter and fun kids will have. *Kerby students performed very well on the Fall 2008 MEAP tests; they were at the top of the district in almost every area! Individual student reports were sent home with students on April 30th. *Kerby recognized 12 students for their Self-Discipline as part of our Give Me Ten program on March 6th. * During our annual Jump Rope for Heart the Kerby community raised: $3,543.00 for the American Heart Association!!! As we looked back over the last 15 years of this event, the Kerby Community has raised and donated to the American Heart Association a Grand Total of: $62,048.00 !!!!!! ******This is something we all should be proud of.***** Thanks to each of you for helping us to fight against heart disease and stroke which has plagued people we know and love. *Kerby recognized 13 students for their Respectful behavior as part of our 'Give Me Ten' program on February 13th. *Mrs. Sullivan's 3rd grade class earned $493.65 at their annual bake sale which they donated to help a family in need!!! * 220 Students recognized as outstanding citizens through the 'Give Me Ten' Character Awards program during the 2007-08 school year. * 96.5% Average Student Attendance rate during the 2007-08 school year. * 99% of parents participated in Parent-Teacher conferences in 2007-08.
Booster Seat Law
State law requires that students less than 8 years old or 4’9” (whichever comes first) must use correctly installed booster seats with both a lap and shoulder belt. Booster seats are safest when used in the back seat. The law exempts buses from this requirement. Teachers must make provisions to ensure that the requirements of this law are met for all field trips requiring transportation.
